Connection Problems

Q... My modem drops out within 20 minutes every time I connect and it's driving me crazy. What could be wrong?
A... The most likely cause is that other phones connected to your telephone line are interfering with the modem, try disconnecting them

Q... My modem drops out once or twice when I first connect for the day but then will stay online OK after that. What could be wrong?
A... Try letting your modem warm up before connecting. Just by having the modem turned on for 30 minutes or so will probably solve this one.

Q... My modem connection freezes then drops out for no apparent reason and at random times. What could be wrong?
A... You may have "Call Waiting" enabled on your telephone line. Try changing the dial-up number to *440198333115 which will disable call waiting while you are on the internet but leave it on the rest of the time.

Q... Why does my modem drop out within two minutes of login in to Patriot?
A... If your account has a daily time limit, you may have used your allotted time for the day. If you have, then the system will automatically disconnect the line if you log back in. You will need to wait until after midnight when the new day starts.
Remember that if you login after midnight that you are login in on the new day and using the new days time.

Email Problems

Q... Every time I check for mail it keeps asking for the password again
A... This can mean one of two things:
1) You are not using the correct user name or password. Make sure that you type your password in lower case letters and that you are only using the first part of your email address for the user name.
2) Your mail file is locked. This can happen when you don't finish downloading your email, the mail file on the server will be locked for up to 30 minutes. Just wait 30 minutes and try again.

Q... Why does my mail stop downloading at the same message each time.
A... This can happen if you have received a poorly formatted email, you can use PacMail to delete the email that is causing the problem.
Are you sure that it is stopping, when you are getting a large email with an attachment, it can appear to stop because the blue progress bar moves across so slow.

Q... I use Outlook Express for email and when I go to check my email, the computer wants to re-dial Patriot even though I am already Online. How do I fix it?
A... Open Outlook Express and go to:
1) [Tools] [Accounts] [Mail] [mail.pac.com.au] [Connection], Choose "Patriot internet" in the list of connections and click OK.
2) Go to [Tools] [Options] [Dial-up], Choose "Patriot internet" in the list of connections and click OK.
3) Close Outlook Express and Open Internet Explorer.
4) Go to [View] [Internet Options] [Connection] Click the "Settings" button and select "Patriot internet" in the list of connections and click OK.

Q... Every time I check my email, Outlook express asks "You are currently working offline. Would you like to go online now?"
A... To stop this message, open the [File] menu and deselect "Work Offline".
